This oughta make it a little easier than having to make a comment in another thread in order to be welcomed.

Say your name, some stuff about yourself, or whatever else you find necessary to tell the rest of the forum members.

My name is Karl. kman is a nickname that my wife hung on me and it just sort of stuck. (1st one ever) I'm currrently in Iraq. An activated MN guard member. Going on Month 12 with 4 to go. We had a 6 month train up in Mississippi prior to coming here so the whole thing is getting rather long. I took Mikes intro and intermediate group classes ,,,,2 years ago? anyway,,they were a lot of fun and I learned a lot. It was differnt being the old guy in the room. I've played off and on for a few years and was ready to get a little more serious. My gear over here is a Squier strat with a fender 15w frontman amp with a bad monkey stomp box and a danelectro distortion. Group living means I have to keep it down mostly but now and then,,folks are treated to "Ironman" up loud or some of my 12 bar blues noodling.
There's a few guitarists around but it's tough to find time and space to sit and play, most folks are busy,,in and out of the FOB or working crazy hours. It's hard to stay motivated and easy to fall into a rut. Ive got some tabbed stuff and the PX stocks Guitar one mag which has a lot of (mostly hard )tab and a DVD with every issue. When Im in the proper frame of mind I work on stuff from there.
A group out af fergus Falls called operation Happy note sent us a free acoustic and Ive been teaching a few guys open shapes and some fundementals. Most guys let it slide when they discover that it doesnt come easy.
I go to the gym minimum 5 days per week, usually 6. Free weights every other day, cardio days in between. My bench press has gone from 225 to 285 and Im thinking 300lbs is possible before ship out as long as the joints hold out. It ought to be a lot of fun to start back grappling when I get home. ;-)
I just found Mikes website and forum yesterday. Good find I'll check back frequently. Rock on! K-

I'm Chris and I've been playing for about 2.5 months now. I received $150 in Best Buy gift cards for Christmas and went shopping. I couldn't find anything I needed (I was a pc nerd) so I walked around the store a bit. I found the Starcaster sitting there and thought, "What the heck?" So I bought it and fell in love! No more pc for me. Plus, the computer stuff wasn't really productive. Music is. I am the old guy in Mike's group lesson. Well, one of them. I'm 31. Who knows, I may even be older then Mike!

Along with my new guitar passion, I like working on cars (wrenching & electronics), playing soccer and hanging out with my fam. I have a hot wife and 2 boys, who luckily got their looks from their mom!

I'm exploring new guitars already. I don't need to yet because I'm not at that level, but I know someday, I'll be hammering the axe like C.C. Deville.

Chis, I looked at the starcaster to see what you were talking about. It looks like a decent though entry level guitar. Ive got a couple of squiers, the strat here and a tele at home, no complaints about either of them. Ive also got a Fender mexican strat and a fender custom shop thru neck tele. My "real" guitars The Squier strat will stay here when I leave and the Squier tele is kind of a guest/friend guitar that I can loan out or carry around in the trunk without worrying too much. The buyer I had for it had cash flow problems so it hung around. (it was supposed to go while I was home)
As you may have guessed, I'm a fender kind of guy. Used to the narrow 25 1/2" neck. A Gibson just feels all wrong til Ive played it for an hour or two now.
My other toy is a Harley. The wife and I ride a lot when the weathers good.
At soe point in the future I'd love to hang out with some other players who are still learning like myself. K-

Yeah, it's not to shabby. I'd like different tuners on it and if it had dual hums instead of the HSS set up, it would probably be more to my liking. I was toying around with a Jackson DK2M that Mike had in lessons last night. I should have known something was up because when I picked it up, this birght light opened from above and I heard this angelic choir type sound. Man, that thing plays so smooth! I type this as I wear my Fender shirt...

Now the Jackson's been in my head all day. Thanks Mike. How do convince my wife that I need a $700 axe? I'd like to try a few different brands now that I'm learning more.

I wish I were with you on the Harley. She knows I want one. I grew up in Rapid City, SD, so I used to go to Sturgis every year. Even worked security there. A Sportster or a V-rod would be the top of my list. I'm with you on the hanging out part. It would be interesting and not as frustrating as hanging out with someone who shreds like crazy.

Chris, my custum tele has the "coil tap" type pick ups which are switchable from humbucker to single coil. Really the best of both worlds in one guitar. the bad news is it costs about the same as the jackson. Squier makes a dual humbucker tele that looks decent. Check musicians friend and guitar center. BTW my tele or the jackson = 2 harley payments. K-

I'm Peter H. I'm 28 and married. I started taking bass lessons with Mike about 4 months ago, been playing for about a year. My previous instructor was no good, I dreaded going to the lessons and didn't learn very much practical info. I switched to Mike last November and all I have to say is just like in college, the right instructor makes all the difference in the world. My goal is to play in the church band.
I play a protype Washburn T34, only have a small practice amp at home of no real significance.
I have been working out for 7 years now and have thought about getting into personal training because I do have a passion for health and fitness, but didn't ever get a certification. My wife and I love to stay active and some of the things we do include hiking, rollerblading, running, basketball, softball, volleyball, skiing/snowboarding, hockey, working out, backpacking, and getting out on the motorcycle. If only our summers were longer!

Welcome aboard Pete! I'm with you...I want to play with our church praise team also. I may have to run some fat gut questions by you soon. I'm 30 and feel 45. I get winded going down the stairs and the elevator is my best friend at work.

Kman - Went to GC last night: I go in, looking to try some stuff out and then get intimidated. There are people in there just shredding away and here I come to play All the Small Things...Sheesh. But there are some VERY nice axes out there. It's like going to test drive the 350Z and then driving home in the Blazer...with a learner's permit.

If Mike started playing when he was 12 and practiced 10 hours per day and say he practiced 260 out of the 365 days in a year, if he's 30 now, then he's got at least 46000 hours of practice in. At my rate...say, 3 hours per week, I should be at Mike's level in 294 years. I think I can make it.

Heheh, don't feel too bad, I hardly pick up my guitar anymore. But I'm getting back into it.

Chris, a lot of those jokers at guitar center go there to strut their stuff a bit. No need to try to keep up. I know I can't. You might try dropping in there before it gets busy. Like when all the shredders are home for dinner? I doubt if you or I will be closing in on Mike anytime soon.
I wouldnt mind sitting down with you and Pete to see if us novices can find something to play afer I get back home. Guess we'd just have to locate a drummer. K-
